Well, here in Brasil this edition was launched together with the movies and l'm almost sure it was the first one in a mainstream market scale. Please correct me if l'm wrong.

And now there is a new full scale translation, printed by HarperCollins, made by a Tolkien expert. I read some parts of it and it didn't felt and sounded as good as the older one, mainly for the songs and poems. I don't question its quality, l'm sure it is a very well done translation as well, the guy is maybe the greatest expert in Tolkien we have here, founder of the first Tolkien society in Brasil and an advisor for all translations made, when he wasn't the translator himself.

But it is a new iteration of LOTR with an entirely new aspect, tone and resemblance to it, which l'm not familiar to, which I haven't traveled Middle Earth with. And now the edition I have won't have its text published again probably, nor its cover. I know movie inspired covers are polemic but this one is a very gorgeous one. Also the dedicatory make its very unique of course, my aunt gifted it to me when I was 16. And suddenly this book became my most precious one. My LOTR to rule them all. Have you ever being through such reflections about the relationship with your books?

For Brazilian fellows, have you compared both
translations?

For fellows around the world, did something similar happened to you?

An edition that's not printed anymore
