What’s the point of the collar tie?
I feel like out of all the ties and hand fighting you can do a collar tie is often the worst option.
I always have this fear of them popping up my elbow if I put a collar tie on them. This is because I often find myself doing it to opponents and teammates who like to collar tie. Just quickly pop up their elbow, split step and then shoot towards whichever leg is closer.
And I often find myself fighting for better controls like inside/outside elbow control, wrist control and underhooks. I’ll also often respond to their collar tie by quickly ripping it off with a Russian tie.
The only moves I know that specifically involve the usage of a collar tie are the slide-by and snap down. Neither of which seem to be very high percentage moves despite being somewhat effective. Snapping down a decently strong opponent seems to be very difficult and I often find it hard to find someone just pressuring in really hard while they have a collar tie because that’s a bad idea in general.
So I ask now, what is the point of the collar tie? Why does it seem to be so common at high levels(D1 and international wrestling) when it barely does anything? At least from my view anyway.
