Donek custom stiffness for freeride/carving?
I’m in the process of designing a Knapton Twin and wanted a second opinion on Donek stiffness levels.
My current board is an older Skunk Ape, 165cm x 26.8cm, which I find agreeable to handle all-mountain but is too narrow for my size 14 boot to carve well.
Enter the Donek which I currently have spec’d at 166cm x 30.5 cm, with more focus on freeride and carving. I need to pick a stiffness and was curious what other’s experiences are. They suggest 9 for freeride up to 12 for deep carving - I’m eyeing a 10 to keep the board manageable but I’m just not sure.
Thanks

I designed one for myself, but they just chose the stiffness based my me wanting it for carving primarily. I have to say, it's perfect. Just on the edge of being too stiff, but it's not. It supports my heavier than average weight perfectly. The base material is insane too. I think there's graphite mixed into it. I think I went a year before I waxed it once.
The best part of buying a board like this is that they will have all your specs, so if you order another one in the years to come, you can just tweak the one part you want and have a predictable new board. Little more stiff? No problem. Same but slightly bigger turn radius? No problem.
Anyway, good luck. Here's mine. https://i.imgur.com/wYlNlub.jpg
Appreciate the info! Do you happen to recall the numeric value they chose for your stiffness?
I never got a number. I just gave them my specs and riding style and they made it.
How do these boards ride on ice? I’ve never enjoyed super wide boards on icy days.
The edge they put on the boards is so sharp you will lose a finger if you aren't careful and the stiffness supports the edge hold on ice extremely well. I am in NH and it was railing on days it was bullet proof.
