[Massachusetts] help understanding the alternative base period.
I'm trying to understand the Alt base period in Massachusetts and am clearly misunderstanding something. I was unable out of work for the past 2 years and reported no income until Q2 where I was paid $19,445. In Q3 July 1st - July 24th I made $7,817. Then on July 24th i was laid off.
MA unemployment has ruled that I am not eligible for benefits. However if I run their calc it looks like if I wait till the end of the quarter I suddenly will be.
I had thought that that was what the Alternative base period was for. The one person I've gotten on the phone quickly said that Alternative base periods are only for people who already qualify in the regular base period..... That seems to be contrary to what I'm reading but at this point I'm so confused. I've never used unemployment before and have no idea how this works.
Could anyone explain this to me?
Thank you!

Correct, in MA the alternate base year is used if: A.) the claimant doesn’t qualify using the standard base year or B.) Using the alternate base period will increase your maximum benefit credit by 10% or more
