Trip out West

Hey y’all, I’m heading out west on the bike next week, starting in Minneapolis. 2017 Yamaha Super Tenere.

I have only a very vague route in mind: Denver or Colorado Springs the first day depending on how I’m feeling. Gonna hit up Pikes Peak as I haven’t done that on a bike before.

Then keep heading West across CO, UT and NV until I hit the coast somewhere in Northern California and head North to Washington before heading back East.

With my flexible itinerary in mind are there any spots or roads or attractions that I should be sure to hit up? Secondly if any one along that general route wanted to meet up and ride along for a day or whatever hit me up and I can be more specific with dates and what not.

Thanks in advance guys! This is the best Sub on Reddit.

I did a similar trip a few years back, 24 days in Colorado, Utah, Idaho and Cali.

In Colorado red cone peak, alpine loop, Ouray (to soak after a day at the peak) are amazing!

In Utah, white rim trail, caineville, sand hollow reservoir and little Sahara are epic as well. If you want to see what some of them look like, shoot me a dm. I can give you my name, have a ton of pictures and videos from that trip posted on my fb. If it'll help you get an idea.

If you can, take it all the way down to Escalante, or all the way into Zion if you have time.

Yeah, that looks like a great road, I’ll stick on it as far as Escalante for sure but probably further. I don’t have to be anywhere at any specific time so I’ll fit it in.

I definitely want to do some of those routes at some point. I’m going to stay on the pavement this time though and go for a real mile heavy trip. Thanks for the tip though.

I live in colorado springs. And the pass up to pikes peak highway is really bad right now. It's under construction they are doing repaving. Parts are down to bare dirt and parts have been scarified. There are signs saying motorcycles use extreme caution. With that being said I still saw plenty of bikes when I went up this past weekend. Just be safe and prepared. It might not be a good route for inexperienced riders.

I appreciate the heads up. I’m still going to do it as I’ve never managed to in all my years riding out west but definitely good to know. I’ll stay alert!

Take highway 115 from Colorado Springs and head south.

Looks like a good one. How far do I take it? I was thinking of the cutting over on 50 before heading back up to 70 for a while.

That's the route I usually take
