Dad in hospital

He became very weak on Thursday could not get out of chair Friday. Called EMTS they thought it was sepsis maybe, it was not. He had another mild stroke. Anyway they can’t release him till he can go for 24hrs without a sitter to do impatient hospital rehabilitation. He was becoming agitated with staff , pulling out IVs kicking ect. His schedule is completely off now I had him sleeping through the night now he’s sleeping during the day and sundowning at night but he s to weak to walk. Now on blood thinners so he’s in big trouble if he falls. So he can’t be released anywhere, I don’t know what to do. We had a palliative appointment today but missed as he’s in hospital. Can’t rehab him because of behaviors …. Don’t know what to do. Also now he is having swallowing issues so have to use a thickener. Hospice evaluation is an option . I’m a mess

Sorry that’s happened! Hopefully he can get proper care, whether or not it’s hospice (but might be something to consider - for my families situation we nearly had no choice.) I hope things will work out decently, you’re not alone in this!

Thanks, We all have no choice really.No matter what we do unfortunately it’s a battle we can’t win. Today I’m just about to wave the white flag. This is so damn hard, I know you know.

It could be the result of the stroke, or it could be hospital induced delirium. Ask the team how they manage that, because it is medical emergency (but it is hard to treat once it has happened).

Consider taking him to a familiar environment, if possible, but sometimes there are medical reasons not to. Alternatively, ask for palliative support in hospital.
