Question about Multiplayer servers and Discord communities

Question

As a compete noob, I kinda got the hang of SP and wanted to try some MP to change stuff up. The thing is, people apparently reccomend to look into the servers listed on the PZ Discord server since the server browser isn't that great, which I did.

I'm just confused on one thing, do you need to join the Discord server of the server you want to play on, even if it's got no password and you really don't want to be that involved with the comunity? I'm really shy, but the admins seem to be really nice, and I don't want to be an ass and play on the server without joining their Discord, if it's considered bad manners.

I could always just lurk there, but I also wanted to know the community's opinion on this.

TL;DR: Is it an asshole move if you play in an open-ip and no password server without joining their Discord server?

If they don't have a password I doubt you are required to join the discord. But sometimes the discord is the place to go to find the rules for that server. I'm sure you're fine

Thanks for the reply. I gave it some thought, and since I am probably going to stick with the server, might as well join their discord.

I was really overthinking it actually, now I feel like a dumbass for posting it on reddit.

A lot of servers are whitelisted and use their community discords for ppl to ask for access. But once you get whitelisted and can join the server there's no reason you can't just peace out of the discord.
