If you’re talking about losing the artillery mech, you can shoot in the opposite direction from the enemy and that will put smoke on their tile - cancelling the enemy attack

can you elaborate? Which enemy do I shoot the artillery at?

The artillery mech shoots smoke out behind itself after firing. So fire the artillery to the 8C tile in order to place smoke on the leaper trying to attack the artillery mech.

Depending on the order, couldn't you use the Jet mech to kill the psion and let the firefly shoot the leaper before it attacks? Wouldn't matter that much i guess since the Artillery is still stuck there because of the web, but this could be an out too if the Artillery had no way to get out of trouble by itself.

Depending on the order for sure. There are a few ways to get out of this

yeah it's possible to kill the Psion (2HP) and use the push mech to push the leaper into the artillery, that way artillery only take one damage. I didn't realize after losing psion's buff, enemy with one HP left would die.

I know this situation has been averted already but to answer the other question: yes, if your mech gets disabled in a level, the pilot dies (unless they have the ‘Invulnerable’ ability which means mech is out of combat for the rest of the level but pilot survives and will be back next mission).

If you don’t have enough pilots, the mech can run without one next mission, but it obviously has no bonuses.
