[theory] Part of the message in GtN

Series Spoilers

What if when Cytherea says to Palamedes "You used your psychometric tricks on the message. If you hadn't gone in there, you never would have known that I'd been in there too" she's not talking about the paint on the wall in her room, but about Abigail Pent? When Palamedes is investigating the hole in Abigail's body, he says "there was something here. ... It was metal-Camilla, it was here for a while ... the flesh had sealed over. " It's weird because the key hadn't been there for a while. It wasn't even hidden until after Abigail died.

From Nona, we also know that Aim has some kind of implant that Palamedes is very interested in. He asks "Did you specifically meet any necromancers who gave you any kind of treatment?" and "What is the implant?" but we never get an answer. Aim tells us why such an implant wouldn't have been found in Abigail. She tells Palamedes "my dead body is designed to deny you answers".

I predict that Abigail had a message implant that disappeared when she died and that cavity is where her key was hidden.

Fascinating. But doesn't that imply that in quite a few ways Abigail/Magnus were always telling lies of omission to everyone they met? That would be a huge secret to carry, they seemed so straightforward. But it's a knock out of an idea! A link Id never even thought of existing. Very cool!

I thought Cytherea confirmed that she was the one that put the key in Abigail? I don't have the book with me so I can't check but I can say that Pal had been having a difficult time getting accurate readings throughout Canaan house which Ianthe also briefly mentioned. It's theorized that the readings are inaccurate due to Jod having preserved much of Canaan house and closed off the rest. My question would be if Cytherea was able to mess with Abigail's corpse and the key to make psychometry readings inaccurate? I assume she didn't think to worry about her writing on the wall since she was confident she had ruined the lock with regenerating ash.

“A while” is a very ambiguous expression. Could be used, depending on tone, to indicate it was just a little or quite a decent amount of time.

I always thought Cytherea had used expodited healing of some kind to make sure it "had been healed for a while", such that if she was looked it, so long as someone didn't dig too far, they wouldn't have found the key 🤔

What do you think would have been hidden in her original implant if thats what it is?
