What are some oyou favorite comps that led you to to discover a band you otherwise probably wouldn't have?

For me it was "Four on the Floor" Screeching Weasel, Teen Idols, and Moral Crux, of course I'm going to get this... It led me to hearing Enemy You for the first time, and getting their album "Where No One Knows My Name." The singer/ Guitarist was previously in a band called "After School Special" whom I wasn't familiar with, but some of you may be.

Also the version of "Some Say" by Moral Crux on this comp is way better than the original version IMO, and is legit one of my top 10 songs ever...

I'm just gonna put the songs here in order for anyone interested.

I posted this yesterday. It turned me onto bands like Lagwagon, Good Riddance and The Swingin’ Utters.

I also made a Spodify playlist with most of the songs minus a few obscure ones I couldn’t find. Here’s the compilation Los Chupacabras

"Let Them Eat Jellybeans!", was how I first heard the Bad Brains. Went out of my way to see them a few months later, just from hearing, "Pay to Cum.

I love that comp, the cuts on the hardcore side get the most spins but I even enjoy the weird stuff on side 2 like Isotope Soap by Geza X and the Mommymen

Punkzilla got me into afi and the “rock against bush” comp got me into Against Me and Strike Anywhere. That one had so many great bands.

Not So Quiet on the Western Front - MRR comp from 1980 - my first introduction to punk/HC and it changed my life. Thanks D!

PEACE comp on R Radical introduced me to a treasure trove of 80s hardcore like The Proletariat, B.G.K, and a slew of others.

As an old guy, the Peace/War comp was hugely influential to me when it came out.

Not pure punk but picking up a comp called 'Psychomania' got me into quite a few of the bands featured. Bought at a whim based on the album art:

A few videos of some of the bands featured:

Highliners doing 'Henry the Wasp': https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZX_uz8uo5cE

King Kurt 'Road to Rack and Ruin': https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iizkI3z-0ec

And finally... the legendary Guana Batz doing 'Rock This Town': https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qc3Gqy3XpZg

That’s a pretty good description of psychobilly tbh

The Thing That Ate Larry Livermore

A more modern comp ( 2012) but really solid play through front to back and the songs are all exclusive as the bands don't own the rites.

Mine was close - Fat Music for Fat People. Found it age 15 (about 2 years after it came out) and my life changed forever.

The Blasting Concept was an SST Records sampler from 1983 or so. and was the first place I heard the Minutemen & Saccharine Trust.

The New York Thrash cassette on ROIR is how I discovered The Mad. "I Hate Music" is one of the greatest noise punk songs ever.

2.06 The Unpunk Album led me to discover Manner Farm. Amazing band.

The Punk O Rama comps got me into many bands that are still my favorites to this day. Mr Brett was a genius for putting them out and keeping them cheap. As a young teenager with limited cash and social anxiety about connecting with others/going to shows before I had internet, they were the perfect gateway. I still give them an occasional listen, and even much later in life now I still find something on them that I overlooked as an early teen that I dig now.

Probably the most "obscure" band that I got into from them is 59 times the Pain.

Scrolling through wikipedia as I type this though- I see most of my past and current favorite bands were on there though at one point or another and that's wild to me.

Nardcore comp was a great find me. No respect by RKL is still my favourite track to this day.

"Make the collector nerd sweat"

What Are You Pointing At? was also great, and contains what I believe to be the best version of "I Wanna Be a Homosexual."

Punk Uprisings Vol II showed me Lifetime right when I needed it around age 15.

Plus Atom and His Package, Discount, Snapcase, and of course, A.C..

So many different sounds in there, it really expanded my mind about what punk is and could be.

This was me, but with Volume I. Although I absolutely think that Vol II is just as quality as Vol I. Those were some great compilations.
