Video quality on reddit app

Video quality on reddit app is extremely low, like early 2000's low. But when I download the same video via third party site to my phone, the quality is much better. So the videos clearly exist in good quality on reddit servers but in the app the quality is artificially reduced. In the reddit app settings or in the reddit app video player there is no option to change the video quality. Is there a way to resolve this? I'm running on 500Mbit 5G so internet connection isn't the issue.
