Choosing a lock system for NYC
So given that I'm moving to NYC at the end of the year I'm looking into getting a new lock(or a couple) and as I'm researching chain locks namely the kryptonite new york legends 5ft 15lb beast, I found myself wondering why don't people or companies put multiple locks(like the actual padlock) on a single chain? Which would essentially create two "chain locks" for the price and weight of one(plus extra padlock).
This might be difficult to describe with no pictures but what I see in my mind for instance is the middle "chunk" of chain(imagine a typical chain with no sleeve) wrapped around lamp post and through the back wheel and around seat tube. This middle of the chain chunk then being locked together to itself with the spare padlock this creating a typical "frame and rear wheel lock." But then because it's the middle of the chain you still have the 2 ends of the chain which could then be wrapped back around the down tube and the lamp post once more and locked with the regular lock at its ends creating a general "frame lock."
It's essentially like making a twist with any continuous loop, like a rubber band, it creates two loops, but unlike a rubber band, a chain gives you the opportunity to segment the the loop. Which would then require 4 cuts to free the bike(2 loops, with chains requiring 2 cuts each)
Maybe the reason I don't see this is because NYC is the only place In the world it would even make sense lmao, or maybe I'm missing something in my mental drawing.
But If this checks out I'm thinking I'll buy the kryptonite ny legends chain lock, or the NY cinch lock 1213 to use as above(researching what additional padlock to purchase from lock picking lawyer lmao) and then also a fahgettaboudit u lock for a "front wheel and frame lock."
Maybe this is overkill for a 2k bike, But it's my only one, idk I've had a bike stolen before and I just don't want to go through that again. Any advice or thoughts on my idea and or anything else bike security is welcome.
Edit: also have been looking at getting pinhead locks for my components, though open to other suggestions
Thanks ahead of time!
