Constantly talked down to by hospitalists
I’m in the ER. Admitting a patient is more difficult than the actual management. I get cut off, get talked to like I’m an idiot, and get a lot of push back. Hospitalists find a reason to try and refuse admission constantly. I get it, you don’t want to have another patient to manage but that doesn’t mean I’m going to send them home. My attendings have told me that I don’t speak confidently enough and they’re not wrong. I’m not sure of my diagnosis at times, when a patient needs inpatient vs obs, what type of bed. It could also be that I’m a PA and they think of me as less or that my lack of experience is easily perceived.
How do I get better with this?
