I just finished SM: Miles Morales on PS5. I thought the game was great, but I was really disappointed to see such poor framerate when swinging around while using any of the “muscle defamation” suits that were patched into the game in an update. How was this never fixed by Insomniac?
As the title states, I was really surprised to see how poorly the game performed in performance mode when using any of the suits with a feature called “muscle deformation”, which apparently got patched into the game after release. Constant dips below 60fps while swinging around the city. Unfortunately, the suits effected are all the default suits, except the very first one. Really marred the experience when all the suits the devs intended the player to wear, and the ones I thought looked the coolest, caused such performance issues. I’m also surprised there wasn’t more discussion about it at the time so that insomniac would feel the need to fix it.
Other than this issue, it was an excellent game. It’s unfortunate the last boss battle also had framerate issues, but I could easily look pass that if the rest of the game ran smoothly.
I guess I’m writing this now for exposure to an issue that I think still should be fixed. I wrote insomniac about it, but I didn’t hear back from them. I feel like all they’d have to do is provide an option to turn off the suit deformation feature, which honestly does so little compared to how much it effects the game’s framerate.
Also, to anyone who wants to say you had no issues, when is the last time you played the game? There were no issues until after they added the muscle deformation feature on certain suits. If you played the game when it first came out, you’d never know there was a problem. If you played it more recently, you’d very much know it was an issue, unless you’re really not sensitive to frame rate fluctuations at all.
To say there’s no problem is to invalidate an actually valid issue. Probably much of the reason insomniac never addressed the issue. It’s very much there for anyone who’s played the game recently.
