boss fight help - lava valve not working

hey guys, currently doing the grym fight for the underdark forge. the valve works the first time that i use it to release the lava, and im able to use the hammer on the grym once until the valve suddenly isnt useable anymore after the first hit. anybody else who had this bug and was able to fix it? ive loaded from earlier save files multiple times to no avail
