What do I do with this White Knight wet stick prop’d in moss? How do I plant in soil/leca with root placement?

I’d usually switch this into leca at this point to get some secondary roots a bit quicker, but the roots are growing from the top of the wet stick, with one random scraggly guy at the bottom.

But I assume putting the wet stick under the leca feels like a recipe for rot.

Should I cut at the top of the wet stick just below where the roots are? Should I bury the stick itself in soil or leca, or will that rot?
