Flatmates are excluding me

I recently moved to a student housing and made friends with the tenants pretty well. I then came to know that they have a WhatsApp group among themselves that they share memes and other silly things that they do together. But they are excluding me from it. The topic of the group came up in front of me and I guy said that he will include me in the group as well but they never did. I feel that since I am a year older than them, they don't feel comfortable sharing things with me. They said in front of me not to include some of the other seniors who are also living there. I just feel excluded and think that having a year of difference in age shouldn't matter that much. I do understand where they are coming from but it stills hurts a bit. Just a small rant

You can’t control how people behave, accept their decisions & process it & let go.

Yeah I get it. It just doesn't feel nice to be excluded. I don't really blame them for that though. It's their group, they can decide who they want in it. And it's not like they mistreat me. They are nice guys and do include me in their conversations

I know but it’s the way or life, Men face this all the time. Have to focus on your own path.

i know exactly how you feel. rest assured that if they aren’t including you, they wouldn’t be good friends to you anyways. focus on the people who do want you around. maybe join some clubs where you can find people who share similar interests!

I mean they do talk to me and sometimes invite me out as well. It's just the online group that is the problem. I don't know. Maybe because I am older than them, they find it difficult to share their humour with me (the things that happen in the group can never see the light of day kind of humour). It's just since I moved to this city, they are the first group of people who I think match my vibe so I would have liked to be friends with them. But life doesn't always go as planned. It is what it is I guess

This happened to me too in my first year. It sucked, I tried to include myself for another month or so but the fact is that you just can’t make people like you. In the end I joined a load of societies, course mixers etc and made way better friends (and got a boyfriend 😁). Your flatmates will realise in about 3 months time that they don’t have much in common with each other and then everyone will start falling out and you’ll get to listen to the drama lol. Just trust the process.

I hope they don't fall out XD. Don't like drama at all. Makes me uncomfortable. Regarding societies and mixers, I am introverted so it's hard for me to mix with people in general. But I am trying.

Just make other friends you don't have to stick to only those people
