Multiclass order for spellcasters

Specific Mechanic

I know this has been discussed before but I can't seem to find any posts on it. What does the most recent new class (e.g., if I went lvl 1 sorc -> lvl 1 wizard -> lvl 2 sorc, wizard would be most recent new class) affect? Does it determine the attribute used for casting?

Does it determine the attribute used for casting?

So, spells that you have learned use the attribute of the class that learned the spell.

Any spells you learn from scribing scrolls via a wizard level all use Intelligence.

What the last selected caster determines is what attribute is used when casting spells from items/scrolls.

If you learned Ray of Frost as a level 1 sorcerer, but now you're a level 1 sorcerer level 5 wizard walking around with 18 intelligence, 10 charisma, whatever... and you have a staff that has the Ray of Frost cantrip on it... your casts with the staff will be different than your casts from the learned cantrip.

Do you know how non-casting classes might effect this?

Like if I take a level of Monk, or 1 level of Ranger (so no wisdom casting yet) should I expect that o adjust my item casting stat, or not?

What if I'm a pure fighter, what casting stat should I expect?

Wisdom.

Intelligence.

Do you know that from testing it, or are you basing it off the fact that these classes could evnetually get spell Save DCs (even though they don't at level 1) and concluding the game would go based off that?

What about Barbarians?
