The Spice of Life (Biotic Team Build)
I had fun writing up my Tech Dream Team build a couple of days ago, so I figured I'd make something similar for biotics. Here goes nothing.
INTRO
Biotic teams are all about Biotic Explosions (BEs). The more of them you can make, and the stronger they are, the better a team you have. However, there's a small detail that is detrimental to BE creation. You can't prime and detonate a BE with the same power. Warp->Reave works, but Warp->Warp or Reave->Reave doesn't. So, in order to have the best, most efficient team possible, you want to have good variety in your powers. I built this team with that in mind. Here's the Spice Of Life team.
THE TEAM
-
Asari Justicar: The single best primer on the team, and possibly in the game. She has three different AOE primers, although admittedly one only works on health. Read mrcle123's excellent guide to the Justicar for a build that tends to work well. Alternatively, you can spec completely out of Pull, instead opting for better defenses and some extra passives. Either works well, figure out what you like.
-
Human Adept: Arguably one of the most versatile biotic classes in the game, with another large AOE primer in Singularity, and two excellent primers/detonators in Warp and Shockwave. Lifting shockwave can prime on enemies with health (if they get lifted), which most people seem to forget about. All in all, an excellent, extremely flexible addition to the team.
-
Human Vanguard: The Reach to the HumAdept's flexibility. Very straightforward, but by no means easy, the Human Vanguard is easily one of the best biotic detonators in the game. Biotic Charge and Nova go together like cookies and cream, and using the two continuously means nonstop detonations. Check out CCCPironCurtain's guide on how to build and play a good Novaguard (you want the last build, the Tanking Vanguard).
-
N7 Fury: The Wildcard. This is going to be a strange build for the Fury, so hold on. I did a post on the Fury here. Don't do that. Instead, you're going for a more support oriented build, since people are already priming for you. Build her 6/0/6/6/6. Don't bother with Area Throw, since you can only detonate one BE per power use, and the BE will throw anything you would have hit with it anyway. You are the team's long-range detonator, and get-out-of-jail-free card (more on that later in the guide).
OR
- Human Sentinel: This is a very solid replacement for the Fury, possibly even better. She's got Throw too, and a bug out power in Tech Armor. Since Warp is much better than DC, I'd spec into that too, going for a 6/6/6/4/4 or 6/6/6/5/3 build. She's much more flexible than the Fury, since you should be alternating between Throws and Warps based on who you're detonating, and also frees up the Adept to focus on their AOE abilities versus Warping things. Additionally, on bosses, the Expose effects stack, meaning that they get ripped to shreds. All in all, a very solid class, and also one of my favorites in the game.
THE STRATEGY
Each team member has a role that it is very good at, and I'll explain those roles here.
-
Justicar: You are an amazing primer, as I said in the previous section. Your job is to lay Reave on as many mofos as possible while everyone else detonates. You should also keep a Biotic Bubble up (with Warp Effect) in a chokepoint for more priming. If you specced into pull and see an unshielded enemy, go apeshit on them. Try and pull them across the map rather than up, to increase the chance of other guys getting caught in the (extremely strong) blast. Other than that, remember that Reave can detonate too, so just keep on Reaving. Biotic bubble with Warp effect can also detonate when first cast, so when combined with the Fury's Annihilation Field, it creates an excellent escape mechanism between the BE and the extremely strong stagger.
-
Human Adept: You are the generalist of the team. You sync up very well with every other member of the team, with abilities that can prime or detonate. The Justicar can detonate your warp or singularity effects with reave, or you can detonate her reave or Biotic bubble with warp or shockwave. The Fury can detonate extremely strong BE's if you set them up with warp. The two of you together are like a Human Sentinel on speed. Lastly, the Novaguard can detonate like a motherfucker, so prime like crazy and s/he'll be happy. Use your excellent synergy for all it's worth, and make Earth proud.
-
Novaguard: Honestly, just read that build I linked up there, since I'm not that great at Novaguarding. Pay attention to what targets are primed, and focus on them. Don't bother with sync-killers, as the Fury will handle that. You are the team's mookbuster, and you are damn good at your job. Stay alive, and play smart. Also, and this is very important, you should be the one hosting. Lag kills Vanguards, and Novaguards especially.
-
Fury: You are the long-range detonator, and therefore should focus primarily on targets that are too dangerous for the Novaguard. Anything with a sync kill and bosses are your priority, as the rest of the team should be priming them for you, and you've got the best and fastest detonator. In addition, the other half of your role requires you to keep Annihilation Field up at all times, just in case you get overrun. Let the Justicar throw up a Biotic bubble to stun enemies and detonate a BE, then detonate AF to detonate another BE and stun again, then get the hell out. Also, a word on a special synergy. This is only advisable when the Justicar and Adept are down, or if you're just mopping up stragglers. Running around with the Novaguard, letting AF prime and Nova detonate, is extremely effective and fun, although very risky.
-
Sentinel: Mostly what I said for the Fury. Focus bosses so the Novaguard can focus on mooks. You can prime and detonate with Warp, so if you're not sure if an enemy has been primed yet, it's best to throw a Warp to make sure. If you know that they've been primed, Throw's a better bet. Also don't forget about Tech Armor. It lets you be a bit more tanky than the Fury, and provides a panic button if you get surrounded by Husks or if a squadmate is about to get synced.
NOTES
Just a few more things. Shields are your enemy with this build, so Acolytes and Talons are the order of the day. BEs do double damage to armor and barriers, so no need to worry about that.
Some of you may be wondering why I didn't take the Asari Valkyrie over the Fury. Mostly, it's because we already have someone priming with Warp, and Throw is a much better and nonrepeating long distance primer. The Valkyrie shines up close where she can put her tech armor to good use, and that's not what this build is about. It can still work just fine, I just don't like it.
Similarly, a Drell Adept can hypothetically replace the Justicar, as two of their powers overlap, and Cluster Grenades are admittedly extremely strong. However, I'd rather have another primer than a detonator, so I chose the Justicar with the Bubble.
CLOSING
I realized halfway through this that if the Humans were all female, I could make a Spice Girls joke, but I decided that I didn't really really really wanna. (Zig-a-Zig-Ahhhh). Now that I got that out of the way, Thank you for reading! Hope you liked it, please comment below with feedback and potential improvement!
