Geography rant.
I love Geography. Especially the people aspect of it. I love learning about different cultures, countries, and politics. Back when I was in high school, I used to open Snap Maps on Snapchat and click on random countries just to see what was happening there (I still do this π ). The less a country is talked about, the more I want to learn about it. P.S. Does anyone find it weird how no one talks about Jordan? I mean, we know it's there, but we never hear about it in the news.
I've spent quite a bit of time perusing the world map and studying most, if not all, countries on Earth. I've come to the conclusion that the world is relatively small, especially in today's world where you can hop on a flight to almost anywhere. We truly live in a global village. I can't wait for there to be free movement for everyone so that geography enthusiasts like me, with weaker passports, can explore the world more.
For those interested in getting into geography, here's an easy way to approach it. The US, Mexico, and Canada basically make up most of North America. In South America, Brazil and Argentina cover a significant portion, with a few average-sized countries scattered around. Europe is somewhat like the default continent that anyone passionate about geography should know about. Europe is to geography what Liu Kang is to Mortal Kombat.
Africa! Africa! Africa! (Cue "Africa" by Toto) This is the continent that can intimidate people due to its multitude of countries, a result of European colonization during the scramble for Africa. As an African, I've always found it the easiest continent to learn about because, well, I'm African.
While we're on Africa, why don't Benin and Togo merge into one country? They both speak French and are both small. They're also overshadowed by Nigeria and Ghana. I know what I would do if I were them π. Asia is relatively easy to master. What I do is associate an iconic figure with each country. For China, it's Kung Fu Panda; South Korea is represented by BTS, North Korea by Kim Jong Un, and Japan, well, it's all about anime π.
As for Oceania, don't worry; it confuses me too. I mean, is it Oceania or Australia? Pick a struggle, lol. And now, apparently, there's a whole new continent we didn't know about under New Zealand. π©
Antarctica gives me Game of Thrones beyond-the-wall vibes.
And yes, the most beautiful countries in the world are South Africa, Switzerland, and New Zealand.
