Work travel and September 15 strikes?

I have to travel to Paris for work and arrive by September 17th. Given the strikes that are occurring on the 15th, would I be better off: A) flying out of the US on the 15th, landing at CDG on the 16th B) flying out of the US on the 16th, landing at CDG on the 17th

Additionally, my options are between Air Tahiti Nui and Air France/Delta. Should I go with Delta given the possibility of cancelations and delays and likelihood of being rebooked?
