Rent increased and warned to conserve energy?!
Hey yall,
So I live in a small studio, in the back part of a duplex. Summer is hitting hard this year, and my landlord paid me a visit and stated that the electricity bill is +$700 this month… Ive lived here for 4 years and this is the first. He told me to conserve my energy and to disconnect anything to do so.. again I live in a studio and I don’t have a kitchen. My necessities taking up energy are: air conditioner, fan, fridge, electric stove, microwave, robot litter box, wifi box, vacuum, TV and computer.
And the kicker is that he raised my rent.
Should I continue sweating in this heat to conserve energy or just continue using as usual since the damage is done and he raised my rent to cover it, is how I’m seeing it.
I need to mention that its myself in this part of the house with a cat, and in the other part of the house is the landlord and his 2 dependents.
Also! He mentioned that he’s only able to pay the minimum of the electricity bill every month, and mentioned if it gets higher he wont be able to pay the minimum and our electricity will be disconnected from both parts of the house… I can’t believe the department of electricity would do this.
TLDR: Landlord warns about excessive electricity usage, raises rent; Should I conserve energy or not, since my rent is being raised regardless of conserving energy at this point?
