Henry and the 6 potato smashers

Names have been changed.

This is a story about my friend Henry and how he came to aquire 6 potato smashers. Henry is very posh and he's very particular especially when it comes to his kitchen. One day he was was ranting to his flatmat Nick about the state of their potato smasher and insisting they needed a new one.

So while Nick was out, he decided he better stop and pick up a new potato smasher. When he gets home, he hands it over to Henry, but Henry is does not approve of the new potato smasher that Nick had gotten and decides to go out and get another one. So now they have three potato smashers.

Nick is a very chill person, he did not take offense and thought the whole situation was kind of funny. He was telling our group of friends about it, not really thinking much of it. Henry's birthday was coming up.

We're all out having dinner for Henry's birthday, and near the end of the night, he decides its time to open gifts. He opens the first gift... it's a potato smasher. We all have a quick laugh and he moves on to the second gift. He says, "please tell me that all of you didn't get me potato smashers." Opens the 3rd gift, it's a bundle of funky socks that he wanted and with that he is given false hope. Opens his 4th gift, it's a book, things are still looking good. Opens the 5th gift, it's a framed picture of a potato smasher. Opens the 6th gift, and it's a puzzle along with yet another potato smasher.

Everyone is having a good laugh and its on to the 7th and final gift. Henry opens it, and it's a black box with a bottle of Jack Daniel's printed on it. Henry is so relieved and tells our friend Chris how thankful he is for it. To which Chris, without blinking says, "you should open it." The box was filled with 3 potatoes.

Side note:

To anyone who feels bad for Henry, just know that in our friend group whenever birthdays, Christmas, anuth where gift giving is involved, the object of the game is never to get something that they think the person will enjoy, but rather to get something that gets a laugh. This happens at every birthday or Christmas gathering. Henry did have a laugh about it with everyone and there were no hard feelings.
