Am I on the proper medication? Am I even diagnosed properly

ADHD Advice/Question

Part rant but mainly advice.

So I was diagnosed ADD/ADHD yesterday (I knew I had it for a couple years), prescribed non-stimulant Strattera 40mg. Yesterday was hell. Started morning regimen My whole body went into fatigue. Got super horny (sorry for saying that but gotta be real), with itching and tickling all on across my arms and back as if something was running beneath my skin; and then made me super drowsy (even today had sedation effects and I dozed off for 3 hours in the morning 🤦🏼‍♂️, instead of being productive and working) . The doctor did say that I can switch it to night if it’s not working for me in morning (what is that supposed to mean)

A little background, so I’ve had things happen in my life in past but without getting into too much detail the medical professionals think I have anxiety and depression. My main purpose to see the psychiatrist was to have me more productive and focus on my tasks (I easily lose focus and have multiple people say to me “my name-focus” “focus dude” “focus bro”). I DONT have freakin depression. I’m not even that anxious. I just need focus and concentration and more productivity as I’m focused on unnecessary tasks and procrastinate. A year and a half ago I had a neuropsych-Analysis test done (the long 3-4 hour test) and did qualify as borderline ADHD.

Somewhere on main ADHD subreddit I read that “no kind of medication will help you with task avoidance behavior, you maybe on medication to treat ADHD, and that will help you manage symptoms, but if you have been avoiding boring and unrewarding tasks, the medication will not solve that issue because it is a behavior problem”. I kinda fall in this behavior issue.

Honestly being off meds was better (I was taking natural supplements for mood and concentration like ashwagandha in various forms and mushrooms in mixes (lions mane reishi Chaga etc). Alhamdulillah I am super religious so no avoidance of my obligations to اللّٰه and do all stuff (fast, pray in masjid, sunnah acts). I just have work focus issues, my productivity is low.

  1. Maybe it’s my 2nd day and it’s too early to tell. What are other non-stimulants that Any of y’all have taken that have helped with focus and concentration with the “least amount of side effects”?

  2. Does that mean that I have to be put on stimulants as what my diagnosis is maybe a little different?
