M/C FMLA

How will my pay be affected? I’m using it for myself and I’m concerned because my doctor wants me to use the full 12 weeks and I don’t think my savings will get me through, especially with having to pay for health insurance. Any insight greatly appreciated!

If it’s something medical for yourself you’ll use accruals. Unfortunately, IPP can be difficult to get though we’re entitled to it. From my own experience, I was out for almost 12 weeks and could not get IPP to pay. First there was difficulty getting the paperwork to the right office. Next, the paperwork was sent to the right office - according to MetLife but no one had any idea who received it. Finally, the paperwork was submitted and the case was closed and denied. I did use savings, and it was incredibly frustrating. In the end, I didn’t have time to argue with them anymore. It’s in their best interest to deny a claim. It’s how they make money. Hopefully, you’ll have a better experience. I’d rather have the extra sick leave on par with CSEA and PEF.

It is medical for myself and this is exactly what I was afraid would happen. Thank you for sharing your experience.

You use your accruals for FMLA. M/C has income protection (short term disability). That is why you only earn 4 days of sick leav ever 6 months. It covers 50% of your income for up to 6 months. You use your accruals for FMLA. After 2 weeks, the income protection plan (IPP) can be accessed. M/C has income protection (short term disability). That is why you only earn 4 days of sick leave every 6 months (PEF & CSEA earn 3.75 hours biweekly). It covers 50% of your income for up to 6 months.

M/C employees are eligible for PFL, no?

FMLA is mostly just job protection. It pays nothing.

PFL is not to be used on yourself. It’s for caring for family.
