Can/should you be denied a massage for having MRSA several years ago?
I have never had a massage before and I thought I would try one because I have had some stressors pop up and need to decompress. I booked an appointment in advance and called about the fact I had COVID awhile ago and I wanted to make sure I could still come in, was told it was fine and I have no lingering symptoms.
The place I booked an appointment with had me fill out a form in advance asking if the patient (myself) had any illnesses recently (within twelve months as stated on the form), then listed examples such as COVID, STDs and MRSA, etc. Since it was only asking for that timeframe I only listed COVID.
Fast forward to today. I get to my appointment and my masseuse asks if I had anything ever and I told her about the COVID, because I was told it was okay, and that I had MRSA. She asked when and I told her 2017.
She had me wait and I waited 15 minutes, so I knew it wasn’t good. Then I was lead out and told the COVID was too recent (conflicts with what they told me over the phone) and I can’t get a massage because I had MRSA regardless of it being years prior and having no reinfections or anything. I even came to the appointment after a fresh shower because I didn’t know what to do and I would rather touch a clean body personally.
Are people who have had MRSA in the past not allowed to get massages? I have never heard of this kind of issue and I’m pretty upset since I was calling in advance to make sure I could have some time to unwind a week in advance.
TLDR: Was denied a massage for having MRSA six years ago. Are people who have had MRSA in the past not allowed to get massages?
I don’t know if this is important but I live in North Carolina.
