Disc Golf Media Companies

Pro Coverage, Highlights and News

I decided to create an excel where I count how many times each player has been on video in a tournament, and of course which tournament. For this I would like to know of all media companies, YT channels etc. that you know of that do or have done tournament video coverage. I might try and figure out a good way to publish the data once I got it all compiled.

Every round counts, but I want full rounds only and "professionally filmed" stuff. So for example I will not include chase card check-ins (too hard to track) or fan-filmed stuff where they only got some shots on film when they went to a tournament.

So far I know of Jomez, CCDG, The Discgolfguy, GK Media, DG Stream Suomi, MDG Media, DG Finland, SpinTV and of course DGPT themselves.

I know this is a massive project, but what can I say? I guess I'm a sucker for statistics and spreadsheets. Why am I doing this? I feel it's a decent way to represent disc golf "celebrity status", especially once I get filtering sorted out so I can see whos's been on coverage the most either historically for a single tournament or a specific time period.

Right now I'm done with Jomez data and we have the usual suspects; McBeth, Wysocki, Lizotte, Conrad, McMahon and Heimburg clearly leading the pack starting from the Final round of Texas States 2013. From the data I can also tell that Wysocki is quite likely to get his 150th round and Eagle could still hit 100 rounds on Jomez this year!

All help is greatly appreciated, including excel help of course, but my focus right now is more on collecting the data.

Thank You! Totally forgot about them!

StatMando already does this. Once you’re on a player’s page, there’s a link in the top half that says ‘x views in y media appearances’. Here’s Niklas Anttila’s for example - https://statmando.com/player/niklas-anttila/media

henrihellOPRHBH•

Not exactly. I'm not interested in any specific player, I want to compare players against each other. I'd also like to exclude skins match, practice rounds etc. Might add those later, but as separate counts so that they can be filtered out.

Can't you use this data and filter some of it?

1
henrihellOPRHBH•

I could, but there are a lot more players than media outlets, so it's an easier job to filter based on producer than player. I'd also get duplicate data for every player on the card and not all players are on statmando. In fact I already have more players from just Jomez than what are available as player profiles on statmando.

You're trying to find out how many times each player has been on coverage? How does this not give you exactly what you want after removing skins and such? Lol

I must be misunderstanding your original request I guess.

You mention 'GK Media'. I think you're conflating 'Gatekeeper Media' and 'GK Pro', which are 2 different media companies.

1
henrihellOPRHBH•

My bad. I somehow always thought they were the same company with different channels for different types of content. Rest assured, the relevant content of both will be included.

No worries.

I just went through my youtube subscriptions and found some more:

Thank you for mentioning Crew 42. It's Michigan-centric, but Zac has gotten a lot of top names on there. Big Jerm guest commented once. I get to occasionally substitute in as a camera guy and once got a great battle between Kyle Klein and Corey Ellis at Brewer Park in Grand Rapids, a super huge thrill for me. Also helped film Tristan Tanner and Silver Latt at Burchfield near Lansing too in a round that feature T.T. wearing a full-face mosquito mask. BRUTAL bugs that day, but amazing forehands as you can imagine...but Michigan pro Willie Prince had the hot round!

Disc Golf Brah, Hyzer Media and Disc Golf Examiner are three other channels with post production, sometimes featuring touring pros.

This is literally on Statmando lol

1
henrihellOPRHBH•

It's not though. They might be quicker than me at making it, but right now I cannot find this on statmando. I can find every (or most) YT video that a specific player was in, but not a quick way to compare without going through every single player's video list and manually filtering out the results that aren't relevant to what I'm looking for.

1
Vipper_of_Vip99•

If you do this, you should weight their relative “score” by number of views (say within a set timeframe, like 6 weeks from publishing the video).

1
henrihellOPRHBH•

I have no idea how to even access that info other than checking in 6 weeks after the video was published. There's also old stuff that even predate YT, so I'm not gonna look into that. I'm fine with amount of videos.

Prodigy (or Prodigy TV maybe) has some older stuff from the early and mid-2010’s. Chuck Kennedy has a channel with lots of old Majors coverage. I can’t recall how many actual full round match are there; more in the way of final 9 holes and light coverage of the earlier rounds.

1

Final 9 are fine for me, thank you!

I wonder if you’ll see any trends such as certain players bringing in more views?

1
henrihellOPRHBH•

Very likely that they are, but that's currently out of scope for my research. Perhaps I'll look into view counts after I'm done with the rest and want to do more Excel...
