question about quitting (specifically about jumping from a taper)

been a heavy drinker throughout my 20s and now into my 30s. i've quit cold turkey about 15 times over that period and never suffered any serious withdrawal symptoms. however, a couple months ago i went on an insane multiple-week bender (24-pack per day), and when i tried to suddenly cut my consumption in half the withdrawal symptoms were severe. so i instead decided to taper starting from like 80% of the amount i was consuming during the bender. that seemed to be working well enough, though i fucked up & binged a few times, and had to start over. this current attempt is sticking much better though. i've reached 3 daily drinks, and have kept it steady at that quantity for the past 3 days. of course, i assume 3 drinks would be a perfectly safe amount to quit cold turkey had i been drinking only this amount for all this time, but is it complicated by the fact that i'm tapering from a much greater level of consumption than ever before? or would it be fine to just jump now regardless? tysm for any input!
