Linking Garmin Device to Sole Treadmill

I just received a Sole F80 and linked my Garmin 955 to it, but after a couple of runs, I'm trying to understand the purpose of doing so. It looks like the treadmill is just a Garmin Connect interface since I had to shut down Connect on my phone in order to pair my watch to it. The manual isn't much help here. I feel like I'm missing something obvious on why I want to do this. Can anyone shed any light on the purpose of linking a Garmin Device to the treadmill?
