What are people's thoughts on the update ASM?

I'm putting together a Defenders team using the new Daredevil leadership and I'm having trouble deciding on a good 5-threat. I played a tournament a couple days ago with Sentinel Prime as a reroll engine for Wolverine and Daredevil and I'm having trouble justifying replacing him since I ended up getting 2nd place (which is waaay better than I normally do).

I also am 99% certain neither of the Dr. Stranges will work with this type of list since they pretty much do the exact opposite of what Daredevil wants his team doing.

So I'm curious if anybody has had success with ASM now that he has better power economy?

Neither Strange is looking to Benefit much from DDs leadership but OG Strange can set up the rest of your team by using his builder to push people into your beaters who want to be surrounded

Yeah I was thinking that might be an alright plan. I'm planning on playing a bunch of games this Saturday so I'll add OG Strange to the list of the things to try.

ASM is great now. He does feel good under DD leadership but even better at home in webs. The more rerolls to hit those crits, the better. Plus the 1 power witty banter is actually super good defensive tech for him and nearby allies. If he's using it when he's getting attacked he's often just getting to do it for free with a crit roll.

Just seen a discussion about the witty banter/crit power interaction on facebook, and it seems like the ruling from the forum is that it does not generate power, despite what was implied on the reveal stream

Right, I meant that when he is defending and getting all of his rerolls, he likely gets himself a crit which will offset the cost of the witty banter he pays for.

Ah makes sense! He's still a really solid character, gonna play against my friend using him tomorrow and excited/dreading to see how he performs

With the new Daredevil leadership, bigger bases mean more bodies they can get within range 2 of. Have you looked at Ghost Rider as your affiliated 5-threat?

Quanathan_ChiOP•

I saw some other people using Ghost Rider with the new leadership and had very little success. He has a similar issue to Doctor Strange where he just doesn't work on the game plan that DD wants. Sentinel Prime worked well because he could dish out rerolls and use Restraint Cables to force people into range for my brawlers to beat up on. I'll give GR a try but I'm fairly certain he won't work out well.

Yeah, I've won 50/50 of my games using GR (but he's also the only affiliated 5 threat I have lol). I sort of had to grit my teeth when I use him and not be efficient, treating almost purely a support piece. Punishing my opponents crits (which tbf did kill off two models in one game) and running away with extracts.

Sentinel Prime is an interesting idea I hadn't thought about! Rhino gets into the fight nice and quick but is squishier than he likes to admit lol.

I played ASM under Marvel Knights earlier today, and the updated ASM was my MVP i knew he was gonna be good, but HOT DAMN. Marvel Knights may even be a better home for him than Web Warriors (disregarding his WW leadership of course haha).

Hes really going to break wide open in Marvel Knights when the new Core box drops next month, and the Parker Spidey specific"Go Get Em' Tiger" team tactics card hits tables. It's the perfect place for ASM to be with that card stapled to him, as Defenders have such a Team Tactics card drought.

I'm going to have a very hard time not auto including Amazing Spider-Man in every Marvel Knights team

That's good to hear. Assuming I have similar results, I might swap out Sentinel Prime with Heimdall and run ASM as my 5-threat.

I would Advise using Shuri and not Heimdall

Quanathan_ChiOP•

The reason I'm using Heimdall is that he's a lot more comfortable being up in the enemy's face. Shuri is fine but I already have Wong sitting on the back point I don't really need two people back there.

I’m severely out of the loop, what are the Marvel Knights?

Daredevil's new leadership that AMG gave him in last weekend balance pass.

"When attacking, you may reroll a dice for each enemy at range 2"

So essentialy an absolute "in your face" style, something that DD, ASM and half the Defenders roster absolutely loves.

He looks solid as all heck for both defenders and web warriors. Gives them in affiliation midline grabs, witty banter being online more negating incoming triggers is big. web swing online more is big. Don't sleep on the "Whatever a spider can" change either.

Daredevil's leadership is already giving you rerolls. Prime is good, but ASM is super worth the try. There are other reroll characters around for cheaper if that's what you want him for
