As of September 2023, does it make sense to wait for a 4080 ti announcement?

Question

I'm finally getting to a place financially where I can reasonably afford an upgrade and I really figured we would have at least heard rumors of the 4080ti at this point in the year, but there's been nothing.

I don't follow GPU news as closely as I'm sure many of you in this sub do, so I'm just curious whether the community generally feels a 4080ti is not happening this year, or maybe even ever?

The 1080ti is my current card and it has served me well but I'd like to finally start taking advantage of DLSS and ray tracing, plus I want to continue to run even the newest games at 1440p and at least 120 fps -- my next monitor will surely be 4K, as well.

There's 0 reason to expect a 4080ti

Can you elaborate? There have been xx80ti releases for a long time now. That's the logic I'm running with.

There is no competition for them to worry about for a 4080ti to exist. There's also 0 rumors from any inside info leakers since the 4090ti got cancelled

As of September 2023, i say it's more likely that the 2030 passes ,than Nvidia releases a 4080ti

There is absolutely nothing anywhere about a 4080ti. Where did you get this from?

1
ThenThereWasRedditOP•

Nowhere. That's the point of my question: Do people think there ever will be one or will NVIDIA skip it.

Are you expecting an Nvidia employee to come forward and let you know on here?

I'm expecting that about as much as I expect you to contribute anything valuable to this conversation.

Thats not fair you contributed very little by even making this post. I am not gate keeping but least give a valid reason why you might think a 4080 ti might even exist.

To answer your question honestly, I don't expect a Ti of anything or a super. This point I think Nvidia is more focused on there AI cards then they are on there desktop/pc graphics market.

Logic behind this is Nvidia needed a cash cow to replace the crypto market and found it in AI. I doubt even a crypto boom at this point would get Nvidia's attention there making so much off AI cards.

The 4080 is around 1200 bucks, and the 4090 is around 1600. If you have the budget for a hypothetical 13-1400 dollar card, just save a little more and get the 4090.

Source: someone who made the very financially painful decision to get a 4090, and is having zero regrets.

Yep, this is almost certainly what I'm going to do! Just wanted to do a quick pulse check on the likelihood of any upcoming announcements -- like a "Yeah, usually every X months within the product cycle we hear something, but we haven't, so a 4080ti is fairly unlikely at this point" type of viewpoint.

I had been pretty deliberately avoiding GPU news, just to avoid the temptation of upgrading.

Smart thing to avoid the news….I should probably do that more often 🤣

Just go with the 4090. It’s worth the price tag, and has a generational leap in performance not seen since probably the 1080ti. Also, depending on what your cpu is, you might want to consider upgrading down the road to match the 4090’s performance. Regardless of that you’ll still see massive gains.

Get the 4090! It’s insane!! No regrets

If a 4080 ti comes out, it will be overpriced. But now buy later, you’ll roughly get your money’s worth based on these insane prices

True, that's fair.

If you can afford a 4080 or a never going to happen 4080ti you can afford a 4090.

Get a 4090 and be done with it

There won't be a 4080ti

No

There has been a Ti for the other past cards so there isn't any reason to think there wouldn't be a 4080Ti
