Where does 'jazz lives' come from? Is talk about jazz living or dying, specific to certain circles of jazz people?

Or are there many circles of jazz that don't debate that?

For example, who don't think of jazz like that, they just play?

Or they see things about the music change / come and go, but they don't feel polemical about it?

This way or line of thinking of jazz seemed like something a critic said, or that maybe or trad circles of musicians feel? Is that right? Are those the people more active on social media?
