Base configuration and panel for a single web site

Hello, sorry if my English is not good, it is not my native language.

Before I ask you the question, I wanted to clarify that my knowledge and experience in VPS is very basic. Regarding the use of the command line in Linux is decent.

I wanted to know if it is really worth an unmanaged VPS in someone like me about maintenance and security and if you think that with some panel can help me (Plesk, cPanel, etc...) to have a stable and secure VPS.

My goal is really to have a VPS because I think it seems better than a shared hosting because of the control it offers me (or at least I think so with my limited experience). I know that the easiest way is to simply buy a managed VPS but maybe I don't need to spend additional money, I don't know.

In short, do you think that a panel could help me to have a stable and secure VPS without having much experience?
