what is the point of revving motorcycles?

i sound like an old man but. why in the world were there 10 motorcycles in a line tonight that i could see from my apartment, just revving loudly over and over and not moving. it just did not end for ten or twenty minutes. is there a point? am i missing something? its never this bad and i was so confused. ugh just wanted to sleep
