XL vs. SR and alcohol?

I’ve been on 150mg XL for years, and personally never had a problem with drinking alcohol. I would totally forget you’re not supposed to mix them.

However my doc switched me to SR 100mg, 2x/day (200mg total.)

Is there a noticeable difference with drinking while on the XR vs SR? Could it be more dangerous?
