Is International Driving permit required for Indian tourists?

Hi! We are traveling to Cyprus next month. We hold Indian driving license and it’s in English. Few sites mention that we require IDP while others have mentioned its not required? Can someone please confirm if Indian tourists can rent a car with their national driving license alone?
