Does this HOA scare you?
So I'm looking at a house in my town that currently has a $150 a month HOA. All you get for that is your grass cut with chemical treatment. It's a small development with about 65 houses and it's on a golf course with mostly retired people. I know someone that lives there and they said the fee goes up every year and it went from $100 to $150 last year because some residents werent happy with the current landscaper and they got a more expensive company. There was also a special assessment of $1,000 for some common area plantings. You also have to water your lawn to keep it green like the golf course which is around $100 a month 8 months of the year.
Anyways, I can deal with the fee as is today, but I feel like this is not sustainable and if the fee goes to $200, it's very difficult to justify spending $2,400 a year for lawn care. I did read through the HOA doc and there are limits to increases but the residents can vote to do whatever they want. And there is a beautification committee that finds ways to spend $$$.
Am I over analyzing this?
