I just cant seem to get the roll to be perfectly sideways after c-up so i can never even get to the part where i side hop because of it. any directional help or general tips would be appreciated
also to my knowledge there is now a new way although i can't find any info on it

Continue to practice. You'll get it eventually. This stuff doesn't come to you overnight.
Make sure you get the angle. Very important. I recommend for the roll/sidehop by holding half down on stick, roll then quick go full down and good.
I tried for like an hour and managed to get through but went OoB before i got to the other side. Oh well. Have to keep trying i guess
If your having trouble with the roll i would suggest watching runnerguy's dot skip tutorial, as the roll is the same sword or swordless, and he does a good job explaining the trick.

Also there is a new setup that doesnt require a c-up angle, and i think its more accurate once you get it.
