daily rate advice before interview at agency

I have an interview at a major ad agency in NYC for a senior cw position (contract) and I'm thinking of asking $1k/day--do you think that's realistic? I have a good book, but I took a 3-year break from the industry, so that might play against me, idk.

At a larger agency, you might be able to get that. But don't be surprised if it's closer to $800/day. Part depends on how long the gig is. The longer the gig, the lower the day rate they'll want to pay.

good point, thanks mate.
when they reached out to me, they mentioned that might be a long gig, so 800 might be closer to what they have in mind. in that case, i'll ask if they can offer remote/hybrid work.

1k is a good day rate for senior. I would just say 1k and mention you’d negotiate for a longer contract. But don’t go lower. Don’t suggest lower just because.
