After 37 years I finally set a boundary with my dad and he immediately cut contact with me

Ive never had a good relationship with my dad but he seems to have deluded himself into thinking we do. He and my stepmom moved across the country to a "fun" place to live when I was two.

As long as I can remember all my interactions with him weren't pleasant, they were him pressuring me to take and airplane by myself at way too young of an age to visit him. Him showing up for a week for my college graduation when i asked him not bc i had to work and wrap up my internships and then him getting mad that i have stuff to do and pressuring me to blow off finals to go drink with him. It's always been disrespectful of my life and boundaries the handful of times I've seen him.

He always demands a phone call on my birthday and holidays. I hate these phone calls. They aren't for me they are for him. It's the same stupid superficial conversation everytime, because be doesn't actually know anything about me. He always sings happy birthday even though I tell him I hate that. One time I got upset bc I was talking about something somewhat personal without knowing I was on speaker phone and my stepmom chimed in when I didn't even know she was listening. After that every single time I have to remind him to take me off speakerphone and he acts like it's the greatest injustice anyyhas faced.

This year I said I'm not doing phone calls anymore but we can text. He sent me a long message accusing me of making it impossible to have a relationship. I said this is what I'm comfortable with, if you want to stay in touch text me, but don't accuse me of preventing a relationship when you are the one who moved away from a baby. That was almost a week ago and he hasn't texted so I'm guessing me setting a small boundary was enough for me not to be worth it anymore to him. I'm relieved but still like wtf.
