The one thing that Mike missed on the Trevor Bauer story
I'm not a big baseball fan, although this year I started following it a little closer. One of the reasons is finding a channel that is mostly ejections (CloseCallSports, they are umpires themselves and explain how the rules govern the play(s) that led to the ejection, even if it makes an umpire look bad). The other, is Trevor Bauer's YouTube channel. I knew nothing of the story of Trevor before I started watching, and seeing him navigate Japanese culture while training and doing a good job pitching was highly entertaining and informative.
So I came in late on why people would hate Bauer (some say he's like Sheldon Cooper, that he's smart, and speaks his mind without filter, and I can see that) and why he got suspended two years, the longest ever outside lifetime bans for gambling or hacking the other team's emails. But the more I dug into it, the more I realized this was way out of whack by the standards set by the rest of the league, by at least a whole year. Someone in the league office was out for blood with Bauer, and it may have to do with him being very vocal about pitchers using substances on balls to increase their spin rate. This may also be the reason that nobody wanted to sign him this year after LA, even though they cut him, was still on the hook for $40 million, and he could have been signed for league minimum.
And this was with no evidence to say he abused anyone. Other players who had evidence stacked against them, witnesses, video, got off a lot lighter. Someone needs to look into why Bauer was seemingly unfairly punished.
