Why did they make Sabine a Jedi?

She wasn’t force sensitive in Rebels, was she? If so why was Ahsoka so intent on training her to be a Jed? Aside from the fact that she trained with the Darksaber and could therefore wield a lightsaber decently well, it didn’t make sense to me in the trailers when I saw her training with what used to be Ezra’s saber. Was Filoni just trying to play into the idea that anyone could use the Force regardless of sensitivity with the proper time and training?
