Spent $500 on the 151 set just to save them. Is that a dumb idea?

Since this set is based on the 151 original Pokémon, I have a gut feeling these are going to be worth a lot 20-25 years from now so I hoarded a 10 set of booster bundles and a couple master collections. Is this a dumb idea? Am I better off opening the packs and hoping I have valuable cards? Or should I stay the course and put these in storage?
