Sanderson’s Obsession With >!Killing Main Characters!<

So I have this dream of the major main characters and villains running around as Shards all trying to splinter each other. A battle-royale on a cosmic scale, happening in a single lifetime.

Warning major spoiler hints below:

!But come on! I’m not sure if it’s due to the eras and gaps between the eras in time, but the main characters seem to have a habit of dying at the conclusion of an arc. Some of the characters are left behind, dying of old age and abandoned in the next era. Some side character rises to immortality or starts jumping between books… All fine and dandy, but we aren’t invested in them! (pun intentional) !<

I’m cringing for SL5, anticipating >!that the entire main crew will be killed/abandoned except maybe Rock taking one of the shards (although that would be cool, I wouldn’t mind that). !<

!But please, can we have some of the main characters survive to participate in the upcoming cosmic-scale events where we have some vested interest in these characters? !<

I would love to see >!Kaladin, Dalinar, or even Shallan!< take up a shard or at least participate in future books.

P.S. all complaints are void if they end up coming back from the spiritual realm at some point, even in support roles. Long live >!Teft!< !
