Gum infection inspite of having clean teeth

Hi, I had tooth ache and abcess 2 months ago, so wisdom teeth had to be extracted. After extraction the neighbouring tooth was infected too with slight pain intermittently, so went for a check up and dentist told me to wait for 10 days to see if the pain subsides. Apparently it has not, so they're going ahead with the root canal. I'm so scared because the wisdom tooth of the opposite side is sensitive now too. Am I going to loose all my tooth due to this infection?
