Consoling Jewish students after Hamas's attack on Israel

We have a few students with ties to Israel, including one who visited family there over the summer.
I'm really hoping that they're out for the next day or two because I can't even imagine trying to comfort them after the inhumane attacks launched by Hamas, especially with the disgusting videos of raped and murdered Israelis that have been posted online, not to mention all the vulnerable Israelis that have been kidnapped.
So, do I openly express my condolences and support for their family and friends in Israel, or do I ignore it in an attempt to give them space to not think about it if they're in?
