My mentor teacher is totally checked out from the job.

Just a rant and seeing if I should talk to anyone in my program about this or just leave it alone.

She has been teaching for 50 years and has said she considered retiring last year but this will probably be it. She gets there right when the students do and leaves immediately. They only have a 30 minute planning period a day and she’s usually talking to another teacher during it or grading so I can’t ever plan anything with her. She doesn’t believe in common core math and thinks that schools are becoming “too political”. We were asked to analyze the classroom library and it does not contain one book written in my lifetime and I’m 29. There are like classroom sets of some newer books that are just still in the wrapping in the closet.

Shes also going on a 2 week vacation when I’m supposed to be teaching lessons and having her observe. When I mentioned it she was like “oh I didn’t even realize, well you’ll be fine.” …..okay.
