CS Study Plan

Is it a bad idea to do all my general education courses (18 credits) in my first semester, followed by natural science and math courses (22 credits) in my second semester + Summer, followed by core CS courses (42 credits) after that and then elective courses at the end? Also how many internships is recommended in a 3 year program? and how long should it be?
