Found a cockroach in my apartment (Hampton Roads)

I live in the Hampton Roads. This is the first cockroach I've found in the apartment I've lived in for 10 months now. It was in my shower. I have a phobia of bugs and would rather live with a venomous cobra. I had to kill it by using water pressure to flush it down the shower drain and pour draino (I know it's bad) down after it, since I cannot squish them. This is literally my worst nightmare.

I have shown a light in every single asscrack of my kitchen, bathroom, closets, and bed. I see no signs of an infestation (poop, eggs, etc), although I am not an exterminator, so I may have missed it. Although I do clean regularly (as recently as yesterday) and never leave food out, so I would have thought I'd have seen something by now.

Do I have to get my landlord (a rental company) to hire an exterminator, or can I call one myself? Any recommendations for exterminators in the Hampton Roads area?

Also if anyone has any insight into what I can do myself in the meantime, I would greatly appreciate it.
