Tenerife Update 2 - Calamity
I wasn't by the pool, otherwise I would have done something!!!
We have a number of "lifeguards" who cover an 8.00 to 5.00 shift by the adult pool. They literally don't have to do anything but sit there - I suppose they're here for emergencies or to curtail bad behaviour but nothing like that has happened this week. They're just sitting there waiting for Arthur to suffer a cardiac arrest and I don't think this is his week!
One of the lifeguards is 65 - it was a tie-breaker quiz question the other day to win a bottle of fizzy so I know this to be true.
He (let's call him Pedro, because that's not racist or cultural appropriation) occasionally snoozes in the lifeguard chair during the day - to be fair it's pretty hot and it's a really boring job. Pedro seems like a lovely guy - he's always smiley and he has an earring.
This morning he was snoozing (just a quick couple of minutes of shut-eye) and 3 guys in suits, shirts and ties came around and one of them took photos of him snoozing!!!
My wife saw it, but didn't realise what was going on until too late.
For the last hour or so Pedro's been running around the pool area like Usain Bolt, picking up stuff and moving sun beds and stuff, so he knows he's in trouble.
A bit sad really - I would feel differently if it was a family pool with kids and emergencies etc.
Should we start a petition to save Pedro??
